With an Asia-Pacific centric expansion strategy, its operations span across Australia, New Zealand (via ASB Bank), China, India, Indonesia and Vietnam, as well as the US, UK and several other countries. Commonwealth also owns the Colonial First State funds management and life insurance business, and – following HBOS’s financial crisis difficulties – BankWest. Major rivals include National Australia Bank, ANZ and Westpac.
